Welcome to Forge and Welcome to First Grade!
My goal is to help create an environment that makes students feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. I hope in setting this tone that each of our little Palmyra cougars will learn a lot and ROAR!
Supplies and Open House
I hope to meet you at our Open House on Thursday, August 24th between 1:45 and 2:45 in Room 3. If you are financially comfortable, please bring the following supplies to our Open House. Items could also be sent in on the first school day. It would be very helpful if you could send the items in a bag that is labeled with your child's name. The headphones should be in a separate bag. I'm excited to meet you!
- Headphones for iPads (Opened from the packaging would be helpful. Labeled with your child's name in a Ziploc bag would be appreciated if possible).
- 2-3 Boxes of 24 Crayola crayons
- 1 Pack of thick Crayola markers
- 2 Jumbo glue sticks
- 1 box of tissues
- Bring a filled and labeled water bottle daily.
- If possible, it would great if students could wear shoes they can independently tie or Velcro shoes if they are still learning. This is just a suggestion of course.
Other items for the classroom that are always appreciated throughout the school year: Extra headphones, extra crayon boxes, Brown paper bags, Hand Sanitizer, Expo markers, and Jumbo glue sticks.
How can I help my child prepare for the beginning of the school year?
Students will be assessed on their ability to recognize all uppercase and lowercase letters, consonant sounds, short and long vowel sounds, and CVC words at the beginning of the school year. They will also be assessed on their ability to automatically read the high frequency words from kindergarten. Reviewing these skills with your child before the school year begins would be helpful.
Can your child tie his or her shoe laces? This would be a great skill to practice before school begins.
Reviewing healthy bathroom routines would be helpful as well. We have a bathroom in our classroom.
Thank you for your support!
