IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Arrival/Dismissal – Please check Power School to see if your child has been assigned a school bus number. If your child has a bus number, the teacher will use that as the dismissal information. If you do not want your child to ride the bus, you must contact [email protected] and [email protected] to have that information changed in Power School before the school year begins. We want to make sure we have the correct information needed for dismissal before the first day of school.
Car Riders: Drop-off 8:30 / Pick-up 3:27 Students who will be dropped off and picked up by car will do so using the access road with entry on Duke Street. At entry, students will walk to their assigned playground. During dismissal, students will be supervised on the back playground.
Walkers: Drop-off 8:30 / Pick-up 3:27 Students walking to school are able to use the walkway alongside the chain link fence next to the access road extending from Duke Street. Additionally, students may use the Forge Road sidewalk to enter school grounds. At entry, students will walk to their assigned playground. At dismissal, students exit from the bus loop doors facing Forge Road and use the adjoining sidewalks to walk home.
Birthdays – Due to the school’s wellness policy, we cannot serve students edible birthday treats. If you would like to send in a non-edible treat, (pencils, stickers, bookmarks, etc.) that would be fine. If birthday invitations come to class, please make sure there are enough for all students. Otherwise feelings get hurt, so it's better to mail them from home. I'll be sending a permission form to share parent contact information. I hope this will be helpful!
Book orders – Book orders will be sent home each month. There are many quality books to choose from and the prices are very reasonable. If you’d like to order books, please send in a check with your order. You could also order online at https://orders.scholastic.com/FLB4N. There is a link on my website. I will send instructions for ordering with each packet sent home. Our class earns bonus points for free books and materials with every order. We love Scholastic books!
Class Dojo - You will be invited to join Class Dojo to view class photos and communicate with the teacher. I love sharing photos of us learning and enjoying our days in first grade.
Contacting me – If you have a question, concern, idea, or want to share something special, please write me a note, send an email to [email protected], or send me a message through our Class Dojo app. Information for that will be available at Open House and sent home the first week of school. I am always happy to hear from you, so don't hesitate to contact to me if you have a question or something to share.
Dismissal Changes - Please send a written note or call the office before 2:00 (do not send an email to me) if you are picking up your child early for an appointment, if your child is going home a different way that day, or if your child has been sick the day before.
Educational Field Trip/Vacation- If your child will be absent from school due to a trip, please submit an educational field trip form at least 3 days in advance for the absence to be pre-approved by the principal and marked as excused.
Google Classroom - Students will join our Google Classroom to access online materials and information.
Homework - Homework may look different based on your child's needs. More information will be given once students have been assessed at the beginning of the school year.
Lunch – You will be receiving information from the school about your child's lunch account. If you drop off your child in the morning and want him or her to eat breakfast at school, please come right at 8:25. If your child packs a lunch, please try to pack items your child can independently open.
Mail – Mail will be sent home every day in your child’s take-home folder. Please review your child’s work, empty the folder every evening, and return the empty folder the next school day. There may be items that need to be returned in the “bring back” side of the folder.
Monthly calendar – A monthly calendar is distributed to ensure that you are aware of cycle days and special events as they occur.
Newsletters – Each week I will send a newsletter to keep you informed about what we are doing in Room 3. This could be a helpful tool to help you discuss what is happening in the classroom with your child.
